Sage Psychology and Consulting is a private psychology practice in Ballarat, Victoria. We provide evidenced based, trauma informed, collaborative treatment for mental health difficulties for children aged 10 years and older, adolescents and adults. We aim to provide a warm welcoming environment, with care tailored to your needs and goals.  

What we do

We offer individual, and family inclusive therapy to address mental health concerns and illness, using a range of therapeutic, collaborative and evidenced based techniques.

 

Treatment of:

Eating disorders, depression, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, sleep difficulties, and life transitions. Supporting parents of children with behavioural concerns, emotional dysregulation, and difficulties within the parent-child relationship.

We are currently offering face to face and telehealth appointments.

Professional Consultation

Sage Psychology and Consulting offer consultation to allied health professionals, school counsellors, and wellbeing leaders; as well as to privately and publicly funded organisations looking for support and advice relating to the mental health and wellbeing of children, adolescents, and adults.

 

Group Parenting Programs

Sage Psychology and Consulting are available to facilitate group programs to parents of infants and toddlers, children, and adolescents as requested. These programs include Circle of Security, Tuning in to Kids and Tuning in to Teens. These programs would be ideal for a group of parents within a local kindergarten, primary or secondary school, or within a particular community group.

 

Supervision:

Supervision is available for registered psychologists and allied health professionals working within the fields of counselling and mental health.

Supervision is available for provisional psychologists undertaking internships or higher degree placements, and psychologists undertaking a registrar program.

A bit about me

Hi, I’m Nicole Phelps, a registered Clinical Psychologist and a member of Australia Psychological Society (APS). I have 22 year’s experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families, in public psychiatry and private practice.

 

I use a range of evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. I utilise knowledge of Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Attachment Theory.

 

I am an accredited facilitator of parenting programs including Tuning in to Kids, Tuning in to Teens, Circle of Security and Triple P.

 

I have a special interest in supporting young people (aged 12 to 25) and their families who are facing the challenges of living with an eating disorder, specifically Anorexia Nervosa. I am trained in Family Based Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa, Adolescent Focused Therapy (AFT) for Anorexia Nervosa, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Enhance), and Multi Family Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa.

 

I am currently offering client appointments on a Tuesday, Wednesday (morning) and Thursday.

New Referals

Information for Clients: 

Individuals, family members or professionals can make a referral to Sage Psychology and Consulting with the client’s consent. Clients are welcome to pay full fees, use private health insurance or can seek a referral from a General Practitioner, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist to be eligible for Medicare rebates.

Private Health Insurance: 

Your  level of private health cover will determine your eligibility for a rebate of psychological services. Please contact your health fund directly to determine your cover. 

​

Medicare Rebates: 

A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) written by a GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist allow individuals who are diagnosed with a mental health condition the ability to access to Medicare rebates for 10 individual psychology sessions and 10 groups sessions per calendar year.

An Eating Disorder Management Plan (EDMP) written by a GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist allow individuals with a clinical diagnosis of an eating disorder, such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder or Other Specific Feeding or Eating Disorder, the ability to access to Medicare rebates for comprehensive assessment and management services. This includes up to 20 dietetics services and up to 40 psychological treatment services over the course of a 12-month period.

What to expect at your first visit

The first appointment is an opportunity to get to know you, gain an understanding of your current concerns and explore your goals for treatment. You may be asked to complete questionnaires in order to gather relevant information relating to your mental health.

 

Fees:

Psychology appointments are approximately 50 minutes in duration. The initial consultation fee is $235, with all subsequent appointments costing $215.

 

With an appropriate referral you may be eligible for Medicare rebate of $145.25.

Fees are payable at the time of your appointment via direct transfer, credit card or EFTPOS.

​

Cancellation policy:

We ask that you give as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Please provide a minimum of 24 hours notice. Failure to do so, will result in a fee of $100 that needs to be paid prior to any further appointments being scheduled.

Sage Psychology and Consulting does not provide afterhours emergency care.
